"That is how most Romans are seen and for the most part, such assumptions have been correct." She said as she turned about and made back for her tent and her warm bed. Tryton began explaining his thoughts on that matter as they walked and when she learned he'd been alone for a long time, she felt almost sorry for him in that. Well, perhaps sorry wasn't entirely correct. But then, such was the curse of a warrior.

Once inside the tent, Silver let him settle her back into bed, smiling at the small grunt of annoyance from her mother as she was made to move some, but the disturbance was slight at best. Once Silver was comfortable back in the warm pile, she pulled Tryton into it with her. There were a few more grunts from the disturbance, but that was all. She then looked at the flap of the tent when he said about going out to face the morning and their people and she cringed when he then mentioned the old witch. "Oh Great Mother, do I have to?".....

"Like I said, I have found what I wanted so why should I not." he again bent down but this time kissed her lips in a deep and passionate kiss. When he broke the kiss, he chuckled. "Yes I think we must face the old witch. I think she will be estatic about it all. I think she will want to perform the human ritual though. More of a ceremony to let every one know."

They were going to have to clean up some before they left the tent, and then of course put some clothes on. This took a bit of time before they were presentable. The blood and fluids would have to be cleaned up later, probably washed down at the river. As he emerged from the tent in his tunic and sandles, he saw the gathering and the old woman. "I don't think we have a choice in the matter." he told Silver.

Silver cleaned up a little, but she couldn't do much about the blood that stained her thighs. That would need a good soak in the river to get rid of that and she rather liked having Tryton's smell on her and didn't want to wash that way. The clothes were neither here nor there for her as she simply adjusted what was left of the dress in case Tryton became uncomfortable again, but even that had been tainted some by the blood and would likely be destroyed. As she made for the entrance of the tent, she heard Tryton speak and when she stuck her head out, all the colour drained from her face. The old hag was already set up for the ritual. Silver growled in her throat and glared at the old witch. "You say one word, hag and I remove your tongue."
The Seer simply grinned at Silver, "A little late for shyness, Ban-Dia." She said, "We all heard you and we can all see your maiden blood. Great Father Sky and the Great Mother will not see their bloodlines result in bastards."
"That's it!" Silver snapped, grabbing at Tryton's dagger in his belt....

Tryton put a hand on her hand with the dagger. "Let the old one have her day here. I think she had been waiting a very long time for this." his other hand went to her face and caressed it. "Besides, I think everyone here is expecting it." he nodded to all the people that had surrounded them. Even his own men were there looking on with expectation.

Silver looked around nervously at all the faces staring at them. The Elders also looked on with expectation and some shock at Silver's behaviour, it was clear they had forgotten already her history, or they had just ignored it. She relaxed her hand and let Tryton take the dagger back before she pursed her lips at he old witch, "Get on with it, old woman.".....

The two were lead to the alter by the elders and the old woman began the ceremony. Everyone gathered around the alter and women came forward with garlands of flowers to adorn Silver's hair and go about her neck. Wine was brought in a cup and the old woman began to speak giving thanks to Gaia and Father Sky. Tryton stood beside Silver smiling. This would make it clear to all that the two were now one. Even her sister and his dire wolf was there along with the mother direwolf and her young. It looked as all of them were grinning as well.

: Silver remained silent as the ceremony began, but she also made sure to behave too. The prayers were said and Silver was dressed with flowers and a garland for her head. She drank the blessed wine and then handed the cup to Tryton. She tried to smile, but it was clear these sort of things really made her uncomfortable. More prayers were said and Silver held her hand out to have it bled and put to the stones on the altar. A small cut along the palm, nothing more. "Can we get on with the day now?" She said as she licked the wound, "There are far more important things happening than appeasing the Gods.".....

The old woman laughed and nodded. The elders bowed and smiled at the two of them. Tryton's men raised their swords in the air and called his name and that of Silver as well. Tryton took Silver into his arms and broughther to him and kissed her deeply once more. When he ended the kiss, he said, "I can get use to this." he grinned.

The kiss definitely made up for the embarrassment caused by the old Seer, but she didn't linger too much on it this time, "We can get used to this when the Vikingar are on their way home, their takes between their legs." She said quietly, "And when I've had some breakfast." She then slipped from his embrace and made for the tent to collect her claws. She needed to hunt something down for the meal and to remind her that she couldn't eat the Seer, that wold be a bad thing.....

Tryton nodded and moved away from the crowd back to the tent so he could clollect his armor and weapons, to include the War Hammer. Once dressed in his armor and his father's cloak he was ready for the day. Silver was wanting to hunt, normally he would have felt a bit of worry, but with her there was none. The vikagars were still trying to shore up their war camp and he knew Silver was capable of defending herself. Also he doubted that the Dire Wolves would not be close behind her. "Enjoy your hunt." he sighed. "I musg go to see about the training."

Silver nodded as she shed the soiled dress and then strapped on her claws. "I will bring you back a rabbit." She said before taking a back exit from the tent. Her sister and mate were waiting at the tree-line, along with their mother and some of the younger wolves and Silver happily joined with them, yipping and tagging as they bounded off into the forest. It would be a few hours before they returned....

Tryton watched her go and then turned to go about the daily business of training their people. With his father's cloak, he looked quite differnt then a normal Roman Officer. That and his long hair was something a Roman soldier would not have. The two hundred men that were being trained at the moment were making progress and with a daily routine of exercise, marching and forming thier shield walls, they would become a very effective unit. Some of his men had already started on training more men. The training took place away from the encampment. It could hold a number of warriors but it was not a place to do such training. A grassy plain was the spot that the training took place.

Others began putting together the catapults and showing how to cut and make more of them. The design was simple and the warriors soon were cutting down trees and creating the pieces that would be made into more catapults.

Silver and her hunting troupe took off far into the forest, far deeper than she had run the day previously with Tryton and the further she got from the encampment, the better she felt and it wasn't long before they started coming upon good prey. Silver and her mother helped the whelps take down a large stag before they moved in one some smaller prey they could take back as easier pieces. It took some hours, but after a good meal and some family bonding time, the pack started back to the encampment. Silver fashioned a sled from branches and vines so she could carry the haul back without impediment.

The pack was received with great respect and when they saw Silver with the meat laden sled, they started applauding her. She was a provider as well as protector and they were all grateful to her for that. It didn't take long for some of the women to set up a fire pit to cook it all, but Silver kept one piece back for Tryton. She had promised him a rabbit after all, though she did neglect to say how he would get it.....

Tryton was pleased with the training. They had five, two hundred men formations that were being trained to be formable phalaxes. Small perhaps but against the vikagars they would be a force to contend with. They would be suplemented with archers within the formation and other shield men that would protect the archers.

Tryton returned to the fortified encampment in time to see Silver returning with meat. The women of the camp came to collect it and take it to the fire pits to cook. He looked at what she had returned with for him. "That lookes like a nice plump one." he said to her. "Should be a delicious meal."

Silver set the rabbit aside and then smiled as she picked up a badger and drove it onto a hooked spear in the ground. "The fattest I could find." She said with a smirk before she eyed the old witch looking on. With one of her claws, she opened the belly of the badger from pelvis to chin and then grinned as she ripped the skin from it in one smooth pull. That made the old woman shudder in something akin to fright and Silver felt vindicated once more. "Mess with me again, if you dare." She said with mirth before returning her attention to the badger.....

Tryton chuckled at her comment and actions infront of the old woman. Tryton knew the old woman was only thinking of the people and how to keep them safe. He saw how the old woman looked when Silver gutted and skinned the badger. "I don't think you would really do anything to that old woman." he whispered in her ear. "Down deep you know she is only looking out for our people." At least he hoped that was the case.

Silver lifted an eyebrow and then flipped the badger over so it could drain properly and then went to work on the skin. "Wouldn't I." She said almost darkly, but then wrinkled her nose, "No, you're right, I probably wouldn't. She's far too gamey and tough looking to be edible. She'd need weeks of curing to make anything useable out of her carcass." The idea that she really was just wanting the best for them and her people did enter Silver's mind, but the woman had to have the worst timing ever to be that annoying and invasive all that once!...

Tryton chuckled. Ah he had picked the right woman to mate with. She was indeed everything he had wanted in a woman and one that would be with him for his lifetime. "Well at least not for now anyways." Once the meat was hung and draining he took Silver by the arm and lead her away from the old woman and then put an arm about her and pulled her to his side as they walked.. She told him as they walked, "Like you are walking with the Gods themselves.".....

Tryton laughed. Yes he was in a good mood. "Well I think Gaia has been guiding us both fromt hat first meeting. She has intervened a few times it seems so right now, perhaps we are walking with them. I think that Gaia and Father Sky are happy.now. I know I am." he smiled down at her. He looked where her tent was and his was. "I think we may have to have one erected for the two of us. Mine has been taken over and though yours is larger it is a bit crowded., and not condusive to newlyweds."

"Newlyweds?" Silver asked. She was happy with his explanation of her comment and yes, he very much looked as though he was walking with Great Father Sky, for only a man with a smile could do so. When she looked at the tents again, she furrowed her brow, "How is my tent crowded?" She asked, "We could fit my entire pack in there and still have room to move."....

He continued to smile. "You are use to having the pack there, I am not. You have grown up with them and their ways but for a man and woman I am sure that you have noticed that a man and woman that are mated, are not sharing a tent with other men and women. More private and the two keep each other warm and happy."

Silver looked around before she bit her lip, then worked her jaw. Yes, she had noticed that mated human pairs did not share their dens with their relatives. "More human rules." She said quietly, though she could understand the concept a little better these days. "I very much doubt it has anything to do with simply wanting to be alone." She said, looking up at him, "The first mating, absolutely, I agree it should be private. It is the bonding time between the pair that is essential to
ensure their future. After that, why should it need to be? Everyone already knows they are a pair. I think you humans are being foolish in such pointless efforts."....‏

"That might be true, but it has been like this for a very long time." he smiled and pulled her to him. "Though I do like the idea of having you all to myself. But if you wish we can stay in your tent with your family of Dire Wolves." He sighed and then turned to look about the encampment. Training had to continue and he was wanting to try something that might give them even a more advantage and cause fear in the ranks of the enemy.‏


Silver firmed her jaw a second time as Tryton seemed to submit to her thinking on the matter, but she could see he didn't like it at all. Humans had such odd ways that she was still struggling to understand completely and she had to remember that she was one of them at the end of the day and not a Dire Wolf. As he turned away, Silver groaned in her throat and then growled. "Fine." She said, "Let us find middle ground here. You want us completely alone, fair enough. I wish my pack mates close with me also. We can segregate a section of the tent just for you and I if that would make you more comfortable."‏

Tryton chuckled. Pulling her to him and holding her. "I think I will be comfortable where ever you will be. If you wish to have them there and help keep us warm at night, then I am fine with it." He wanted her to be comfortable and feel safe. He could put up with it, but when it came to making love he would want a bit more private area.‏

Silver smiled and nuzzled her face into him briefly, a small show of public affection that many did notice. No sooner had she done that, one of the new generals came to Tryton and thumped his chest with his fist in salute. "Sir." He said firmly before looking at Silver, "Ban_dia. The men are ready to begin.".....‏

"Will you come with me?" he asked Silver. "We are going to try something with my Dire Wolf and his mate." Putting an arm about her, he lad her to the two hundred that had begun the training before all the others. In side the formation was the two wolves. Outside the formation was a number of straw figures representing the enemy. He took them into the square and then went to his wolf and walked him through what he wanted. One of the men had his shield at an angle facing into the square at the front edge of the shield wall. Tryton finally got through to the wolf what he wanted and the wolf ran and used the shield as a launching pad to propel him in to the air over the shield wall and onto the straw figures. His mate followed him. Tryton turned to Silver to see what her reaction would be.‏

Silver lifted her brow, but then nodded. What she had planned to do could wait a while. She walked with Tryton to the training ground and she watched with curiosity and almost surprise at he scene that unfolded before her. As it turned out, the move Tryton was trying out with his Dire Wolf and her sister was not only incredibly effective, but also utterly unpredicted and very well done. Were that move to be tried from within the shield wall and done with such precision as just then, the move could be devastating to the enemy. Silver couldn't help but smile and she nodded with approval. "That kind of surprise from inside the shield wall and it could very quickly devastate any enemy.".....‏

Tryton chuckled as he saw her face. "Against an unsuspecting enemy, they can be devastating and the fear alone would cause panic and break any formation. They had a secret weapon that the Vikagar would not know of and would not be ready for. The Shield wall, Archers with in the square, and the dire wolves. They would be a formable force together. "So I take it that you approve?"‏

"Very much so." She said in reply, "Unpredictable, vicious and utterly fatal. How very wolfish of you, my mate." This got many stares from the warriors around them, not least for her open affection....‏

"I think with in a couple weeks with the other squares being trained we might see what they can do against the Vikangars. By then the catapults will be ready and we can bombard the enemy encampment as we march against it." If they could destroy it, the new army would have no where to land with out being confronted by Silver's army.‏

Silver nodded and smiled, "You are truly as devious as you are deadly Tryton, even for a Roman. An Alpha at heart if there ever was one. My father would be proud of you."‏

Tryton chuckled and shugged his shoulders. Devious perhaps, but a head for tactics now that he had. "So shall we go see what your general wanted."‏

"My general?" Solver asked...‏

"Our general." he corrected himself. "He said the men were readuy to begin?"‏

Silver furrowed her brow, as did the general that had spoken. "But I am your general." The man said in confusion, "Was there another readiness you needed to know of beyond this training?".....‏

Tryton laughed. "My mistake. I thought you wanted the Ban dia's attention for something else. How goes the training of the the other Squares?" he asked.‏

The general furrowed his brow again, but then realised what had caused the confusion, "No Sir." He said quickly, "I only spoke to her because she was there at your side Sir. As your wife, it is only fitting that she be greeted after you. As the Ban-Dia Laoch, she deserves at least he recognition of such. I meant no confusion or offense Sir.".....‏

"It is ok, non taken." he said. Tryton called the Dire wolves and together with the General they went to check on the training of the others units. His men had them doing drills and combat with shild and sword. No wild attacking but combined with those to the left and right of them. Effective fighting, effective killing method. Tryton was proud of his people. They took to the training and were becoming a united army in many ways.‏

Siver decided after that, that she would take a back step and let her new mate get on with his day. She went back to the camp briefly to gather her pack and they went out into the forest for their own style of training. It was much more primal as expected, but Silver had taken on board what Tryton had been trying to instil from the beginning. She still would not admit it if pressed, but for the moment, she could see the benefit of such formal training and to be fair, she wanted to present a force that could be just as formidable and deadly as Tryton's. The sheer destructive force of the Vikingar demanded it if nothing else.

Two weeks passed kind of quickly, and the drilling and the marching and the practice seemed to make the ten squares that he had created into a combat ready force. Two thousand men ready to go up against the Vikagar's He had six catapults and one battering ram that was ready to smash through the gate of their encampment. His horsemen would be the mounted force that would hit them hard if they came out or ride through the encampment killing anything they could.

The rest of the warriors would be in two groups to hit the flanks of the encampment. First with a rain of arrows and then moving in slowly shields locking in the front to protect them form the vikagar's arrows. It was time to put them to the test and see what would happen.

"Ready to teach those dogs a lesson?" he asked Silver. If it all worked as planned then they might be rid of the Vikangar's that were already there. They would have time to prepare and train more to meet the next wave that might be comming.

Before she knew what was happening, two weeks had passed them by. The training on both sides of the defences had gone incredibly well. As Tryton's men had perfected their shield wall and battle formations, Silver's pack had perfected their own tactics to coincide with Tryton's. The unveiling of her training had gone down better than she'd hoped for, though some of the men were still a little nervous about having wild Dire Wolves between their feet.

During that time, word had been sent across the sea to the warlords of the Vikingar and the boy King was eager to see his countrymen arrive with their forces to help him rid his new isles of his enemy. His recent defeats had not only dented his pride, but had shown him to be weak in front of his men. This he could not tolerate. Word had come that he would have his warlords by the next new moon in three weeks time.

Stood by her husband, Silver looked on the army with pride. Her father's pelt no longer graced her skin, but Tryton's shoulder. As their leader and her Alpha, Silver had insisted that he take her place and honour her father in the proper way. Tryton had not disagreed, but she did wonder if he felt comfortable with it all. Ready to teach the Vikingar dogs a lesson? Silver smiled darkly, she wanted nothing more. "I've got your flank." She said with pride.....

Tryton attired now with the pelt of the dire wolf clasped to his armor, and the war hammer in one hand and a shield in the other formed up the formations and marched them out of the forest onto the plain between the forest and the sea. Each formation took their place with Tryton in the center one with his two Dire Wolves. Horns sounded from the enemy encampment and Tryton could see the Vikangars reading themselves for battle. He raised his hammer high and the catapults were bought out and placed between the formations. Carts filled with stones were also brought out, ammunition for the catapults

The catapults were readied and Tryton gave the signal. Now the Vikangar's would see something. The catapults were fired and the stones arched high in the air and came down inside the walls of the encampment, smashing men, structures, and anything they hit. The next volley was adjusted and the stones hit the wooden walls with a force that cracked and smashed the timbers. Tryton smiled as they continued to fire smashing down a section of the wall, leaving only splintered timbers.

The Vikangars tried to fire volleys of arrows at them but they fell short. Then he gave the command for the formations to move forward. In unison the men began to walk forward, shields held up to protect them. Again the arrows came but Tryton's warriors protected themselves with their shields. Tryton's archers loosened their volley of arrows, which made the Vikangars take cover themselves. The catapults now increased their range a bit and began a bombardment of the inside of the encampment. Screams of dying men could be heard as the large rocks smashed bone and bodies.

In side the camp many of the Vikangar's pointed out Tryton. "It is him. It is Thor! We are doomed." they cried. But the young King screamed his commands at them and told them it was but a Roman Soldier posing as Thor to frighten them. But it did not have the desired effect. There was only one thing that the King could do and that was to send his men out to attack the army before him. He had more men and he thought he could crush them. He ordered his men out and they formed up and marched out to meet Tryton and his men. He thought his men could smash through the shield wall, but he found out quite soon that was not going to happen. The battle was joined. The shield walls held, archers picked their targets and fired, The warriors used their spears to stab and kill those before them as they slowly moved forward one step at a time.
