Magnus wasn't surprised by this bit of information, and he laughed. "A bad hair day is when your hair won't cooperate" he explained, grinning at his oblivious lover. "I rarely have those thanks to the amount of gel I use. It's an amazing thing" he sighed happily, watching as Alec opened the set of blocks he had gotten for Skylar, and showed them to him. He was perfectly fine with spoiling their child, as long as he knew how to take care of himself when he was older. If he had powers from his warlock side, then he would be fine with that whole thing.

"It sounds pointless, but okay." He left it to the experts to worry about that sort of thing. His hair, well, since he didn't ever do anything with it, he had never experienced one of those. Unless it was one of those times he couldn't get it to all stay down so the Clave wouldn't call him sloppy. He wasn't sloppy, he just....didn't care. "Skylar's going to be so happy growing up," Alec commented, smiling at the things he'd gotten from the people who loved him. "I hope he will, anyway. I want to be able to do whatever I can to help him be happy." Alec would do that for anyone he cared for, especially Magnus.

Magnus still couldn't believe how little Alec cared about his appearance. The whole thing was crazy to him. He thought everybody cared even just a little. Nobody wanted to look ugly. Not that Alec could pull off ugly is he tried. "Yeah. I want him to have the best childhood he can possibly have, despite the fact that he was technically impossible, and illiegal. I think he broke four different Clave laws before he was even born" he concidered this for a moment, laughing slightly. "I think that's a record" he grinned, shaking his hair back from his face.

"That has to be a record, it's probably never been done. Or at least if it has, it wasn't as to an extreme degree, and maybe not as many?" They still didn't know how many laws had been broken, before or after Skylar was born, and how illegal he was. Illegal enough where he probably would get voted on by the Clave to experiment and take him apart, Alec thought with a shudder. Skylar was still in parts human, how could they take apart an at least seemingly normal looking human? A baby, no less. Or whenever they got caught, how could they destroy someone with every right to live?

Magnus was proud of his son already, even if it wasn't exactly good parenting to be proud of your child for being illiegal and breaking the law. Although he was sure he would be proud of him later for killing things, so that wasn't much better. Downworlders and Shadowhunters had such different morals than Mundies. He frowned at the shudder from Alec, and he brought a hand to his face, smoothing his thumb over the Shadowhunter's cheek. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have brought it up" he said, guessing what Alec had been thinking already.

"Oh, um, don't worry, it's fine," Alec excused, putting his hand over Magnus' hand. He was the warm touch that brought him out of his depressing thoughts of what could happen in the future. "Ah, when we're done here, which is soon, if you want, you can go back to sleep until Isabelle calls or something," he said, though he didn't know whether or not he'd be going back to sleep. He was debating on it, but Skylar might not want to go back to sleep, so maybe he'd stay up until Skylar got sleepy again. He'd probably just sit with him and talk to him or something.

Magnus shook his head, still frowning. "No, it's not. I'm sorry. It's Christmas, I can't be bringing these things up. But everything will be fine. I promise" his voice was serious, which seldome happened for him. He looked deep into Alec's blue eyes for a moment longer before smiling, kissing him on the cheek. "No, I won't go to sleep and leave you guys. I'll suffer for today. Thanks though" he grinned. He loved how generous Alec was, just wanting to make everybody else happy, and not worrying about himself. But that was Magnus's job, making Alec happy.

"I trust you, I know," he said, though fear and nerves took over him anyway. He didn't let it show, Magnus would think his comfort was insufficient. It made him feel like it would be okay, but there was the paranoia nagging at him anyway. "I had been planning to just sit on the couch or something with Skylar, talk to him just 'cause. You're welcome to sit with us." The family sitting quietly and comfortably, warm and happy. Safe for the time being. Alec would make sure he enjoyed what they had now, in case the day came where they weren't safe.

Magnus knew Alec trusted him, but that was something somebody couldn't really promise, except that they would do their best to prevent it, which he would do. He could tell that Alec was still unnerved, but hopefully he would settle down after a bit of relaxing. He felt bad for making him scared like this, let alone Christmas morning. "Okay. Here, get more comfortable" he offered, sitting back a bit so Alec could move as he liked. He would move back after and settle down. He himself found it more comfortable to at least half-lie on the couch.

"Yeah, okay," Alec agreed, loving to be by Magnus' side on the couch. The bed was actually nicer because it was more spacious and they had a few more memories there, it was more comfortable, in his opinion, but maybe that was just because he thought it was bigger and more spacious. More place to move around instead of just a horizontal strip of cushions. "Skylar is amazingly wide awake," Alec said, looking at the baby's eyes, who were just blinking and looking around. What did he see, exactly? Did he understand anything he saw? Maybe in a few months he'd understand how to interact things or something.

Magnus waited for his lover to get comfortable. He knew the bed was nicer, because beds always were, especially his bed, which was his favorite of his posessions, other than his clothes and glitter. He looked down at Skylar's wide violet eyes when Alec pointed it out, before he looked back up to Alec's clear blue ones. "Wow. He seems to be awake a lot more than I thought. All babies really do is eat sleep and cry until they're like one, or so the internet says" he frowned slightly, wondering if the sites were lying to him, or if Skylar was just weird.

"The internet? You checked the internet for facts or something?" he asked, kind of surprised, kind of not. Magnus would check the internet for stuff. He'd check things like 'how to's' and what not anywhere, Alec preferred just to ask his mother or Isabelle. It was easier than him trying to work the internet, which he had a horrible time with. He never knew what to click, where to click and junk. "I think Skylar's not gonna cry much, I wonder why though." Skylar had cried maybe a third or so of what babies usually cried? Something like that in the statistics range.

Magnus shrugged, finding this completely normal. "Well yeah. Mostly to know what to expect. You've actually gone through this before, sort of" his only encounters with children included clients bringing their kids to him to do something stupid. But at least he got paid. "Yeah, well all babies are different. Your mom says that you didn't cry much. But that doesn't surprise me" he smiled. If Skylar was like Alec when he was a baby, would he be similar when he grew up? That would be interesting to see.

"Ah, I guess I didn't cry much. There wasn't much to cry about. It was quiet in Idris, and it was safe. There never was a reason to cry until Isabelle came and got everything." He would admit, he'd had a little jealousy thing going on when Isabelle was first around, because he wasn't the only child anymore getting all of his parent's love. He had thought his parents were replacing him at one point, that he hadn't been a good enough kid for them. "Skylar doesn't have a reason to cry just yet. He gets all of his food, he sleeps often enough, he isn't roughly handled. As long as he gets attention, as long as he's treated nicely, he should turn out to be a nice kid." Or at least Alec hoped. That was how it worked with kids, wasn't it?

"I can give you something to cry about" Magnus dropped his voice, a smirk threatening his face. Sure, it would be more something to scream about, but he would be crying out. Same shit, different pile. "Most children get jealous of their siblings" he nodded, knowing how that worked from other people. "Well that's not always true, I guess. I know some pretty shitty people who were brought up fine. And the reverse. I turned out pretty okay didn't I?" he hadn't had a very ideal childhood, and he was going to see that his son got the exact opposite of what he got.

"I don't usually cry," Alec said, "er, most of the time." Most of the time he didn't full out cry, some tears here and there, sure, penetration made his eyes water sometimes. "I wasn't jealous after Max came along. It was just Isabelle that would get on my nerves, then I got old enough to know they weren't dissatisfied with me." Which wasn't that old, Alec had matured fairly well as a child. His dad had told him to be strong and grow up quick so he'd survive, and doing that had actually helped his mentality thing go along. "Yeah, you turned out okay," Alec nodded, despite Magnus' upbringing. Alec wished Magnus could have had a nicer childhood.

Magnus grinned when his lover defended himself, but it wasn't a very good job of it. "Yeah. It's normally the younger ones that feel unappreciated. Animals can feel that way too, neglected after a baby comes along. I'm just glad Chairman Meow isn't like that" he said, smiling as said cat jumped on the couch to join the family. Magnus had tied a green and red ribbon around his neck the day before, and the cat didn't seem to know how to get it off yet. "I'm glad you think so. Some people don't" he grinned slightly, thinking of a few that would like him to drop dead any day now.

"Some people don't know you very well," Alec said, "don't worry about it." Magnus was a good person, deep down inside, even if he was rude to a lot of people. Magnus could be nice if he wanted to, he was the kind of person who could be mad at anyone, and then if someone who cared about him asked him to calm down he would. Or most likely would. Alec had read a couple books with coincidental gay couples in them, and one had a dangerous punk/bully who hooked up with a quiet, book-smart guy. Alec had been thrilled reading that book, whenever they were mentioned. The quiet one just had to ask his angry boyfriend to calm down, and he would. Alec thought it was sweet if most couples could do that.

Magnus laughed, glad to know that Alec thought that. It was pretty true, many people didn't know him that well, but it was also that he wasn't exactly too fond of some people, and he made that fact completely clear. To Alec though, it was almost painful to snap at him when he was grumpy. He immediately felt bad about it and went to console him and appologize. "And then are the people who I love very much, and know me better than anybody" he said, grinning down at his fiance. Even for knowing Magnus for a rather short period of time, for a warlock, he knew him better than most people.

Magnus knew Alec the best out of everyone. Magnus knew him better than Jace had known him. He knew Alec loads better than Alec knew himself. Isabelle came second in understanding him, though. Alec not knowing himself wasn't that unbelievable. How much he didn't know was written in books, and there were loads of books out there. "You know me pretty well. You're good at knowing anyone." He saw through everyone, or at least when he wasn't being biased on them, and gave them a chance to at least say something without snapping or yelling.

Magnus shrugged slightly, accepting that it was true. He had had a lot of practice to be able to tell a lot about people when he first met them. Body language, dress, speech habits, it all said a lot about a person. "Yeah. With some practice you could too" he said, hoping still that Alec would take up his offer to make him immortal. He wasn't going to lose him when he grew old and died. "I like that I know you that well though. I know most of your habits, probably what you're thinking most of the time, how you're feeling, and what part of you hurts, without even asking" he smiled slightly, feeling that the more they knew each other, the closer they could be.

"You've got your magic too, that helped you discern things from people too, right?" Alec asked, figuring an analysis spell could do something. If there was one, and knowing warlocks, especially high warlocks, there had to be one, in some form or another. "Your clothes usually give away what you're feeling," Alec commented, recalling a time he had worn black before, and little make up, mostly eye liner. When he wore his loud colors he was generally in a decent to good mood, and anything else with sparkles was the norm. Alec got used to seeing what he was wearing, what he did with his hair or with his face, and he gathered his information on how Magnus was feeling at the time. He was proud to say he was usually right for a while.

Magnus nodded the affirmative to that question. "Yeah, I can, if I bother with it. A lot of it can be told without magic though" he shrugged, shifting slightly to get more comfortable. He grinned when Alec pointed out his clothes. Now that was one absolutely true fact. He picked out his clothes as to how he was feeling. Whether he felt he needed to stand out or not, whether he was feeling happy, seductive, or depressed. It was all reflected in his clothing choice. "So you noticed that? I'm proud of you. Most people don't" it didn't surprise him that Alec of all people noticed, since he saw him almost every day.

"Isabelle dresses how she's feeling, or wants to feel for the day," Alec said," so I picked up on yours eventually." He didn't know how many people coordinated their mood and clothes, but he understood it when Magnus did it over time. He'd take notice of his clothes upon a greeting, and then analyze his mood during the day. "Yours, since you wear the same kind of brightness all the time, was harder to figure out." It took a lot of guess work and such, he was glad to have guessed it though. He sometimes knew what Magnus needed that day just by what he wore.

Magnus had noticed that, unless he was seeing Isabelle in her Shadowhunter gear. He liked the gear generally, because that was the only time he got to see Alec volentarily running around in leather. It was quite appealing on him, but he knew that his fiance didn't like to wear it unless it was his gear. "I beg to differ. I do wear different kinda of brightness. It's not all the same" he grinned. He could probably name off the different kinds of bright in his sleep. Fashion was just second nature to him by now.
