Once she was sure that he was asleep she sneaked out of the bed put on her housecoat then taking one last look at Alex she slipped out of the room followed by her pets she walked onto the porch and sat down on the swinging seat and imeditaly her dog put her head in her lap and the cat jumped onto her and nuzzled her, they both knew somethingwas wrong. Dani pet them both. She felt bad leaving Alex, but she had stayed with him until she was sure that he was asleep hopeflly that would fein off the nightmares. She sighed and then laid down on the swing, she was no longer sure she was doing the right thing. She had seen how he was acting in the car. It was almost for sure that he would have a flash back, but it was for a good thing wasn’t it? Alex might hate her afterwords, he would most defitly be upset but it was for the best. He had too see that there were people like him, ones that had gone through a tour wth no injuries or just minor ones and this is what the metting was for.

Dani slowly closed her eyes, Skye her dog jumped up on the swing and covered her and her cat slept soundly beside her, Comforted by her two animals she fell asleep on the swing outside. Worring about the next day and about her tender ass, and how Alex now felt towards her, for she still felt dirty, and maybe earilier in the car maybe he wasn’t thinking about the next day maybe he was just thinking about how dirty she was now. So alone outside on the swing she selpt soundly. In the back of her mind she still listen for Alex, but she was certain that since she was sure that he was asleep when she had left she simply thought that he would be safe for the night. Tommrow night would be a different story she had a feeling that she would be up the entire night with him. But she didn’t mind but tommrow was tommrow, maybe he wouldn’t let her she would have to wait and see.

Alex slept well for a couple of hours. He woke up and felt the empty space beside him. He got up and looked around the house to see where Dani had gone. He heard her dog out on the porch and he looked out the window and saw Dani sleeping on the porch swing. He went out and gently picked her up and carried her back upstairs and laid her down on the bed and covered her up. He was surprised the cold air had not woken her up. It was fall after all and the warm weather had gone.

He laid back down but could not get back to sleep. He thought of the next day and taking Dani to the VA. He would see so many of the returning troops there probably. Thought the soldiers did not live there, the center helped those coming back from the war, trying to help them adjust to their new lives, and their conditions. How different it had been when he was over there. Yes he hated seeing his friends die or get tore up from explosives or shot up. But he continued on, as they all did. But being back home it was different somehow.

Slowly it seemed he finally drifted back off to sleep. Feeling the warm and soft body of Dani now next to him helped.

The coldness hadnt bothered Dani or not that she could tell her dog and cat had kept her warm. But it want a troubless sleep in her dreams she was walking into the VA with Alex and he had pulled out of her hand and had began to scream at her calling her nasty names then he collapsed on the floor trapped in a nightmare like none she had ever seen before. She couldn’t help him this time everytime that she got near he pushed her away, she was terried, this time the trained hosptial staff had to help him. She was helpless and she hated it.

As Alex came outside her Dog looked up at him wagging her tag but as he went to lift her Skye showed protectiveness she didn’t growl or anything she just put her paw on Alex’s hand to show him that she cared for Dani as well and almost as a warning not to hurt her. As he carried her in Skye and Comet both followed behind them and as he placed her down they both jumped up on the bed at the foot staring at Alex as if they excepted him to fix what was wrong with Dani.

Dani had slightly awoken with Alex carring her, well actually she jumped and gasped but she reconized his smell and that calmed her down. She hadnt ment to sleep that long but somehow she had. Dani snuggled into Alex and half asleep she whispered “No matter what Alex I love you and I always will, even….” She trailed off sleep finally comsuming her again, this time while in Alex’s arms the dream didn’t come back but she was still frightened of the next day and if he wouold hate her by the next days end.

Morning came and the alarm went off. They had just enough time to clean up and get going. Alex hoped that Dani would not be to sore. The hot tub and a nights sleep should have helped some. He was still a bit worried that he had hurt her the night before. He knew she thought herself tough and held things in. He doubted that she would actually tell him that he had hurt her and she had not enjoyed it. He got up and out of bed and jumped into the shower. Then he got dressed and waited for Dani to get her shower and get dressed.

He was still a bit nervous about going over to the VA Center. He had never been over there. He had only talked to people on the phone and set up the head shrink appointments. But Dani had an appointment there to see about doing some volunteer work. He waited for her to get ready and watched to see how she moved to see if she was hurting. When she was ready, he took her to the car and then drove over to the VA Center. As he pulled the car up into the parking lot he took a deep breath and got out of the car.

Dani slept through the night but not soundly it was a very restless sleep and when she heard the alarm go off she did not want to awaken she snuggled deeper into the covers she expected for Alex to kiss her and to wish her a good morning, to hug her to tease her that it was time to get up, but he did none of that she felt her heart ach as she heard the water of the shower, he didn’t ask her to join him, he didn’t say anything. She felt even worse, something was wrong. She sighed and removed the blankets and sat on the edge of the bed.

As he came back she chanced a look at him but still nothing so she sighed and got dressed moving slowly but trying not to draw attenion to herself. Today was going to be hard enough for Alex and she didn’t want to make it worse. She dressed in jeans a long sleve shirt to hde her marks then placed a sweater over that. She walked silently with Alex to the car he was still silent and that worried her what if her nightmare came true? What if he really did freak out once in there and she lost him?

Driving there she stared ahead. Lease if something did happen they were going to the right place for it to happen. She sighed to herself and gently reached over and rubbed his arm. Still nothing she chewed her bottom lip and watied for them to get there. Once there she smiled at him and stepped out too and then pulled him into a hug and kissed him soflty on the lips then put her face into his neck. “No matter what Alex, I am here for you I love you and always will” With that she gently took his hand brought it to her lips then kissed it then walked with him to the building, once they reached the doors she squeezed his hands and then opened the doors and stepped inside with Alex.
